How to Make 6 Figures on the Phone
Jul 25, 2022Hey, everyone,
I'm super pumped today because I've been making calls. Sales calls, that is.
Surprised that this gets me excited? Keep reading to find out why. You might just learn to love sales calls, too.
But first, if you haven't had the chance to watch the video version of this, I encourage you to start there. You can find it on my blog page.
So there's something to be said about good marketing tactics: copywriting, digital marketing platforms, email marketing, social media, Facebook TikTok, Instagram, etc.
But at the end of the day, you have to make the register ring, right? You have to go ahead and get some sales. So once the leads come in and the lists are compiled, it's time to talk to people and do business.
If you sell high-ticket items, and here I'm thinking of anything in the range of $100-$500 and up, but this is especially true of really high-ticket sales, most of it's done by talking to people on the phone, on Zoom or in person. The biggest deals happen in person, by the way.
Today, I jumped on the phone and made about 50 outbound calls. I took a list of people I've been marketing to and did some demos and had a good time. I actually enjoy doing outbound sales and doing sales in general because I get to help people, ultimately. Even if they don't need my service, I get to talk to people and reach out to them.
Some people think it's annoying and they hang up, but it's actually not the majority of people. The majority of people are interested if you approach it the right way and you take interest in them. They can actually kind of appreciate what you're doing the majority of the time. I've built multiple businesses on the back of my sales efforts and doing outbound sales after acquiring lists of people who are warm leads.
I like to acquire warm lists, where I have some sort of affinity with those people. Maybe they don't even know who I am, but maybe I've touched them in some way with marketing, or I understand what they're going through at a really deep level. That's my most preferred type of list I like to use for outbound sales.
One other kind of really strategic list you can think about is what I like to call your hot list. This would include people who have purchased from you. You can compile a list of your current customers or clients. Do your top 10 and just get on the phone and call all of them.
It's amazing what using the phone as a business tool can do. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might know that right now I run my business from my basement, basically. It does over six figures a year. I pretty much built it using marketing strategies but also using the phone -- actually getting on the phone and calling people.
A lot of the best business people in the world block out time to use the phone to engage in sales activities, like making contacts and setting appointments. Nowadays we're booking Zoom calls, so sometimes the phone call leads to a Zoom call.
Even if you're in retail, you can reach out on the phone to your good customers and offer them something. Just get an offer, find out something that you can reach out to people with and make those calls.
Or if you have salespeople, they should be beating up the phone on a regular basis, trying to offer something to your best customers.
If you're just waiting for customers to walk in the door or just waiting for stuff to happen, sometimes you might be lucky or maybe you have invested enough in your marketing. You can make that happen with money and time if you market yourself hardcore.
But a lot of times just contacting high-quality lists of leads and high-quality lists of people over the phone is a great way to inject your business with new customers or bring in new business through current customers.
So, here's something I'm reminded of and want to encourage you with: Don't be afraid of the phone.
It can't hurt you. Personally, it's given me great results over and over again.
Hope you guys are having a great day.
See you next time,
Chris
P.S. One of the foundations for success on the phone, as I mentioned above, is having quality leads. And one of the best ways to get them is through digital marketing.
There's a steep learning curve, however, to doing it well and not everyone has the time or inclination to invest in figuring it out.
If you'd like to have a conversation about how my team can help you with your digital marketing and start sending quality leads your way, get started here.
